Maria was recognized as citizen of the year for her work with the CEED Centre and many other organizations, including the Golden Ears Gogos, which supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign; the Maple Ridge Social Planning Advisory Committee; and the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society. We are pleased that her hard work as an advocate for many social and environmental issues in our community has been formally recognized. And we are grateful that she choose to donate the prize to support our free community programs.
We are pleased to announce that Maria Raynolds has donated the $2,000 prize that accompanies her award of the title, Maple Ridge Citizen of the Year, to the CEED Centre Society. Maria was a director for six years, serving as president or vice president of the CEED Centre for many years. During that time, she was instrumental in mobilizing the community to achieve a pesticide control bylaw for municipal and residential lands. The Citizen of the Year award is awarded by the Maple Ridge Community Foundation, a charitable foundation that uses donations from citizens to help other citizens in need through the Community Chest program and through grants to community organizations.
