Mentor Matching
|
How it Works for MentorsBlue Door mentors come from diverse backgrounds and fields of interest. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, check the eligibility criteria. We will meet with you to discuss your fit with the program and the needs of our youths. The next step is to attend our training session, which provides insight into the recognition of behaviours attributed to mental health issues. Mentors are also taught how to best empower and support youth, utilizing community integration activities, coping strategies and goal setting.
We offer three different ways of mentoring. A Primary Mentor works directly with a youth on an ongoing basis and leads the mentorship team. A Team Mentor, may not be able to make the same commitment as a primary mentor, but has skills or knowledge to share with the youth as part of the team. This commitment is ongoing, but not as extensive as for the Primary Mentor. A Sessional Mentor leads occasional workshops of interest to one or more youths and mentors. |
