Mentorship Training

Adults interested in becoming a primary mentor, team mentor or sessional mentor must attend a four-hour training workshop to better equip them to be effective mentors.

Trainees learn :

Effective communication methods to better engage with youth.
How to recognize behaviours attributed to mental health issues.
Practical ways to support youth affected by mental health issues.
Strategies to empower teens through community integration.

...and more! The training is free and takes place at the CEED Centre Neighbourhood House in Maple Ridge.

Requirements for Mentors

Being a mentor is a big responsibility. In order to be a Blue Door mentor, you must meet the following criteria:

Be at least 19 years old.
Provide a clear criminal record check: vulnerable sector search, every six months (free, online).
As a primary mentor, commit to the program for one year and spend a minimum of four hours a month with your mentee.
As a team mentor, commit to the program for one year and spend several hours a month with your team.
As a sessional mentor, commit to teaching one or more workshops.
Attend our Mentorship Training Session (unless you have significant experience mentoring youth, references required).
Attach at least two references to your application.
