Golden Ears Community Co-opKimberly Lauzon is as passionate about creating community as she is about setting up healthy food systems. So she saw a natural fit between her passions in a community co-op that could improve local food security in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows area. She brought her ideas to the Wednesday Community Discussions at the CEED Centre Neighbourhood House and began to recruit like-minded people. And that was how the Golden Ears Community Co-op began to form. The group began to educate itself on the co-op model and held some fundraisers to engage people. However, life is never without change and Kim found herself living in Canada's eastern realm, where her passions endure. With the loss of its key champion, the movement lost momentum. And so the Golden Ears Community Co-op has an opening for a new champion to carry on where Kim left off.

The Opportunity |
Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, which we like to call the Golden Ears area, has a population of about 100,000, a strong agricultural industry and more room to grow farms. The produce, value-added food and dry goods retail sectors have room for specialty vendors. We believe there is an opportunity for success for a consumer co-op focused primarily on the food sector. We are looking for food champions to fully explore the feasibility of bringing the Golden Ears Community Co-op to life.

The Assets |
The CEED Centre Society holds some modest funds in trust for the nascent community co-op. These funds can be made available for the further development of the co-op.
