Origami by Sandra The CEED Centre Society is happy to announce receipt of funding for seniors' activities in Port Haney through the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors program. The funds will be used to support activities in the Port Haney area of Maple Ridge that allow seniors to stay active in their own neighbourhood. Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows have a dynamic social scene for seniors based on the seniors' centres in both cities. But sometimes even the short distance from Port Haney to the centres can be a barrier to people with transportation challenges. The programs in the Port Haney Seniors Stay Active series will offer a range of physical and social activities right here in the historic center of Maple Ridge so that seniors don't have to travel far to take part in exercise classes, knowledge sharing groups, and social gatherings.
As we age, our support network of friends and family changes rapidly and seniors need to make new friends or be at risk of becoming isolated. Our programs for Port Haney are intended to make it easier for seniors to connect. The programs will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor activities hosted at various sites in Port Haney. Many will take place at the CEED Centre Neighbourhood House, while others may be carried out down at the wharf, at the Caring Place, restaurants and pubs, or St. Andrews Heritage Church. The activities will be targeted at Port Haney residents, but will be open to participation by all seniors.
We'd like seniors living in Port Haney to join a steering committee to help us determine which programs they'd like to see carried out. If you know a Port Haney senior, please have them contact us at 604-463-2229 or by email.
