Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Joe Jurcich, our amazing plumbing volunteer

The heritage building that houses the CEED Centre Society, the former Japanese kindergarten from the 1920s, has an incredible ambiance upon which visitors immediately remark. But it doesn't have a kitchen sink. So a dedicated team of volunteers and donors are generously devoting their time and resources to build us a modest staff kitchen. Among them, the Maple Ridge Community Foundation recently awarded a $1,900 grant to pay

pay for the cabinets and counters. Joe Jurcich is applying his plumbing expertise to rough in and connect up the plumbing, spending many an hour in the crawl space beneath the building to meet the building codes and get it right. Meanwhile, Nancy Winfield is preparing the upper walls for painting and will help to install cladding to protect the heritage walls. Wendy Rairdan, our new president, and her husband Bryan dedicated a weekend to installing a laminate floor to protect the heritage floors. Our thanks also extend to the Milewski family for the donation of a full-sized fridge.
